Funds For Special Purposes

The St. Marys Community Foundation is a public charity where gifts can be deposited to do good deeds in the St. Marys community. Some examples of funds already operating are below. Please contact Michael Makley at smcf@bright.net if you would like to set up a fund for a special purpose or to make a donation to a fund that already exists.

American Legion Post 323 (‘04)
Fund established to deposit charitable gift funds from the Legion to be able to distribute the funds throughout the St. Marys area for charitable purposes.

Income to be used to benefit senior citizens of Auglaize County through the Auglaize County Council on Aging.

Barton, Dr. (’77)
The Dr. Barton Fund was established by the St. Marys Rotary Club with interest to be used for loans to further the practice of nursing and medicine.

Best Friends Humane Society (’09)
The Best Friends Fund was established to use as much interest and principal as needed to assist Auglaize County area in dealing with the humane treatment of “Dogs” (man’s best friend).

Income to be used to provide a donation to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Aug. and Mercer Counties and provide scholarships to senior graduates of MHS high school & Wapakoneta High School.

Children’s’ Toyland (’75)
The fund was created by the St. Marys Ohio Child Conservation Leagues. Funds are used to purchase toys for children while hospitalized at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

Fund established to receive charitable gifts type funds from the Eagles Lodge in order to distribute funds to the community for charitable projects.

Fund was established to hold scholarship amounts too small to set up a separate named scholarship fund. Scholarships included are: Shaner Scholarship, Burke Scholarship, West PTO, McEvoy Scholarship, Community League of Women, Minster Bank, Julie Griffin Memorial Scholarship. Specific Purpose Funds (’93)
Funds that do not meet the specific requirements set forth below for investment returns shall be placed in the Community Gifts Fund.

  • The gift should be in such amount as to insure a meaningful result or benefit.
  • There must be a reasonable expectation that the fund will grow to carry out its purpose.
  • A Specific Purpose Fund may be formed for any specific education, religious, scientific, literary or charitable purpose. Such gifts must be in such amounts to insure the practicability of administration. The Board of Trustees shall, at its annual meeting, establish a minimum balance needed to create a Specific Purpose Fund.
